Catalysts Derived from Nickel-Containing Layered Double Hydroxides for Aqueous-Phase Furfural Hydrogenation

Changes in the structural and textural properties of NiAl-layered double hydroxides (LDHs) (with 2–4 molar ratios metals) state nickel that occur different steps synthesis catalysts were studied using XRD, thermal analysis, TPR, low-temperature nitrogen adsorption, XANES, EXAFS, electron microscopy methods. Relations between content, catalyst reduction conditions, nickel, its catalytic revealed. It was shown use NiAl LDH as precursor even at a high content active metal allows for obtaining dispersed particles supported are aqueous-phase hydrogenation furfural. The activity conversion furfural found to increase with elevation temperature corresponding growth fraction reduced nickel. However, lower (500 °C) makes it possible form smaller size 4–6 nm, Ni (Ni:Al = 4) can be used obtain Ni@NiAlOx catalyst. Under mild reaction conditions (90 °C, 2.0 MPa), reached 93%, furfuryl alcohol formed selectivity 70%. more severe (150 3.0 complete achieved, cyclopentanol tetrahydrofurfuryl main products.
